The final round of the 2008 Civic Inter Series was held in the autumn surroundings at Fuji Speedway. Both Matsui and Maejima were tied in the driver's championship heading into the final round. With everything on the line, all the attention was on both drivers, but it was TEIN user, Goto who took pole position in the wet qualifying session. The qualifying session was decided after a tough battle with only 0.7 seconds separating 2nd to 8th positions. Championship title contenders Matsui and Maejima qualified in 4th and 5th places respectively.
Race day turned out to be cloudy with the temperature hovering around 13degrees. The final round of the season took place in conditions which reminded everyone of the 5th round held in August at the same venue. As the final race of the season got underway, Goto protected his top position, but Maejima took advantage and moved up to 3rd position. Matsui was right on his tail in 4th position. With the battle heating up for the championship, Matsui got in Maejima's slip screen and flung out to overtake him at the first corner, successfully moving up to 2nd position. Matsui pushed hard right until the end to come home in 2nd overall position and to clinch the series championship!!
With the race cars changing from the Integra to the Civic this season, TEIN users swept all three series by winning the Inter Series, Eastern Japanese Series and the Western Japanese. |
