The 3rd round of the Civic Inter Series went back to Okayama, where the opening round of 2008 season was held. Maejima qualified in pole position yet again, and only 0.02 seconds separated 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions. The following 5 positions were only separated by a mere 0.5 seconds and Shimamura, who won round 2, qualified in 4th position. Matsui, who finished in second place in the opening round, qualified in 5th position.
Rain was forecasted for race day, but when the actual day arrived, everyone was sweating it out as it turned out to be a fine day. Looking at the results from the qualifying round, everyone was expecting another fierce battle in the 18 lap race.
As the race started, both front row cars of Maejima and Ichimori headed into the first corner, as Shimamura started his challenge on 3rd placed Taniguchi. He was racing right on Taniguchi's tail as they came out of Attwood Curve and lined up side by side breaking into the end of the back straight. Shimamura managed to over take Taniguchi coming out of the hair pin corner putting him a podium position. Matsui also drove hard starting from 5th on the grid and was able to take advantage of the fight in front and over take Taniguchi as well at the same hairpin corner!! This started the next battle for a podium finish for both TEIN users.
The battle went on for a few laps, but Matsui's superior tactics allowed him to overtake Shimamura at the end and finish on the podium in 3rd place! This was a consecutive podium finish for him at the Okayama circuit. Round 2's winner, Shimamura came home in 4th place. |
