Rd.2 of 2009 Super Taikyu Series was held at Sportsland Sugo. Weather was cloudy but the track condition was dry. Unlike Rd.1 in Twin Ring Motegi where there were many stops and goes, this track favors to vehicles that are light-weight and with good cornering capability.
Just like the previous round, Rd.2 was a one day event, so each team and even the spectators were feeling the tension building up. Car#27 FINA ADVAN M3, a class winner of the opening round will not be participating in this round, so the battle will be fought strictly by domestic manufacturers.
There were high hopes for RX-7, which are known for their lightness and sharp cornering, and car#14 Kyoshin-keisoku My Road Okabe Jidosha RX-7 (FD3S) places 1st in the qualifying round. He leads his class in the final race, but due to engine failure, he starts to lose position. But even with such difficulties, he pushes hard to finish 3rd.
Meanwhile, car #15 KYOSHO Makers Okabe Jidosha RX-7 (FD3S) takes over car#14's spot and takes the lead. Everyone thought for sure that car#15 would be the first to finish in its class, but a car failure occurred at the last moment and judging by the damage, it cannot make it to the finish line so they had no choice but to retire from the race. Car#16 T-MANOIL DIXEL Okabe Jidosha Z (Z33) bumped up a position and was the first one to receive the checkered flag and became the class winner.
