The 8th and final round of the 2008 P-WRC (Production car World Rally Championship), "Wales Rally GB" was held from 4th to 7th December around Cardiff and Swansea in Wales.
For this round, P.Flodin entered the rally driving the Uspenskiy Rally Tecnica Impreza GRB from Russia. With plenty of testing time undertaken before the rally on his home ground, Sweden, he started the rally with full of confidence.
On day 1, some SS had to be cancelled or shortened due to the snowfall and dangerous frozen conditions. Right from the start, everyone was already treated to the harshness of this rally. But within these conditions, it was P.Flodin charging hard to finish the day in 2nd place, only 30 seconds behind the leader. This rally was also the final round for the British Rally Championship and TEIN user D.Higgins finished the day in 5th position.
During day 2, P.Flodin continued with his great performance by setting the best times in SS9 and SS12, which put him in 1st position. "The suspension is working well, and there is no problem driving" commented P.Flodin with a smile. All the media attention was on him now as he sat at the top of the table. D.Higgins unfortunately drove off the course during SS10, ending his day.
The last day of the rally was made up of 4 SS covering approximately 90km. P.Flodin started the day with a 19 second lead over the second place car. During SS17 he suffered machine trouble and ended up spinning his car. This cut his lead to just 1 second. With the help of the Uspenskiy Rally Tecnica mechanics, the trouble was fixed and he left the service park. P.Flodin set the best times in SS18 and SS19 which left nothing but a glorious victory for him. This was the first win in P-WRC for him! It was also Uspenskiy Rally Tecnica's first win in P-WRC! Furthermore, it was the first win for the Impreza GRB in P-WRC!
With a victorious win for TEIN in this rally, it concluded the 2008 drama filled P-WRC season. We can now all look forward to the exciting action waiting in 2009. |
